The Foundation

The Foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

I am building a massive deck/treehouse for my boys. I have been explaining the importance of the foundation to them and struggling with getting it right. The land falls three ways, and I missed it 1/2” from perfect. It will drive me crazy. All my work is built upon that foundation which is not perfect. What is the foundation of your faith? What is the base of your beliefs that your house of faith is built on?

There are so many ways to err as we build our faith, but is our faith built on the rock of Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven? We must get this right. If we do not understand whom Christ was, is, and has done for us; our faith will fall when tested by God. Christ was fully human and fully God when He came to earth. He died a painful death to justify you before a Holy God. He is the mediator between you and God and only through Him may you enter into heaven. Matthew Henry puts it; “The doctrine of our Saviour and his mediation is the principal doctrine of Christianity. It lies at the bottom, and is the foundation, of all the rest. Leave out this, and you lay waste all our comforts, and leave no foundation for our hopes as sinners. It is in Christ only that God is reconciling a sinful world to himself, 2 Co. 5:19 .”

Don’t let the world convince you there are many ways to God. We all do not end up there, and many will pay for their mistake for any eternity. There is only One way, and it is not through living a good life full of good deeds that make you feel good. It is by a humble heart, repentance of sins, and a plea for forgiveness. That is the rock upon which you build your faith that will stand in God’s testing of it. Ephesians 2: 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone.

When one opens, it also closes

When one opens, it also closes

Acts 6:14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs which Moses delivered to us.” And all who sat in the council, looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as the face of an angel.

We are creature’s of habit that resist change. We rest in our ways feeling through ourselves we can accomplish the goals set before us. Stephen had been chosen as one of the first deacons by Christ’s apostles to aid in the duties of the growing church spreading the Gospel of Christ. His diligence and great faith stirred up those who were against the change of which he was speaking. They felt if they followed the law of Moses, they could attain heaven through the power of themselves and their ability to follow the law. But they did not understand the law was there to point them to Christ whom had already come, and now provided the way to heaven through the grace of God. This caused them to blasphemy and plot, and ultimately kill Stephen.

Matthew 18:11 For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. Those words reflect the biggest change presented to us, that will affect us for an eternity. In the eternal lostness that you reside in your pride without Christ, your resist to change will haunt you to no end. We all have heard of “When one door closes, another door opens.”  What if that door was the door to your soul and only you have the key to accept change by opening the door to follow Christ? When you open that door to your heart, you close the door of hell forever behind you. No change in life has the impact of Salvation, and no change in life that you make to feel you have earned your way there opens that door. You have the key, but Christ is the lock that opens and shuts it behind you. John 14:6 “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.” Humble yourself, repent your sins, and accept He has the ability to change you like you have never experienced before, before it is too late to have the option.

The Living Word 01/13/12

There are so many ways to go with this passage, but I want to look at the possibility of not understanding the Bible. I had coffee with a guy about a month ago, who talked about his understanding of all types of secular books, but how he just doesn’t get the bible. He continued to talk and revealed much more than he realized. I know he goes to church, but I believe he practices religion, and is not saved. We cannot understand the bible until we are.

The Living Word

Hebrews 4:12         For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

They call it the Living Bible or book. What other great books throughout history make the claim to be more that just print? We all have heard the Word preached, or heard a sermon, and felt like it was pointed right at us. Sitting in a church full of people, and wondering how the pastor knew exactly what we were battling at that time, and how he wrote that sermon for us. It was not the pastor, but the Word of God that spoke to us. It probably hurt, just as a sword does. The power of the conviction of the Holy Spirit is revealing the words of God to us, revealing our sin, revealing ourselves.

I learned a few years back, that the lost simply cannot understand the Bible. Until Salvation, when we are given the Holy Spirit, we cannot understand, because the Spirit is whom reveals these truths to us. If you are struggling with understanding, get on your knees and pour your heart out to God. Accept that the only way to heaven is through His Son, that you can do nothing to earn your way, that you understand how much you are a sinner, and you need His help. You may very well find that your bible becomes alive in a whole new way, for eternity.
