Reset & Made New

Reset & Made New

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

How often have you heard the term “renewal of the mind?” Think about what that means; starting over, refresh is a common term now, it would indicate likely a large change in the core of our being if our mind was renewed to what we had learned in our lifetime. I do believe I was saved as a child, but my heartfelt plea of repentance and faith to believe came about 10 years ago. I prayed the sinners prayer over and over feeling the weight of sin on my soul. My life truly transformed when I began to read my Bible every, single, day. My mind was transformed by the Word of God; you cannot remain the same person you were the day before if you read your Bible every day; I am a living testimony to the power of God through His Word alone.

I love Matthew Henry’s commentary on this passage. “Conversion and sanctification are the renewing of the mind, a change not of the substance, but of the qualities of the soul. It is the same with making a new heart and a new spirit-new dispositions and inclinations, new sympathies and antipathies; the understanding enlightened, the conscience softened, the thoughts rectified; the will bowed to the will of God, and the affections made spiritual and heavenly: so that the man is not what he was-old things are passed away, all things are become new; he acts from new principles, by new rules, with new designs. The mind is the acting ruling part of us; so that the renewing of the mind is the renewing of the whole man.” The conversion is the gospel at work in the repentant plea of a sinner to salvation, and sanctification is the lifelong process of the evidence of God at work in their lives. There is such a liberty as the apostle Paul wrote in the heart of the believer; a freedom found in Christ alone that the world does not comprehend but desires. The world sees something in you, those in your circle of influence see the change in you that only could come from God. God uses your sanctification process to work the power of the gospel and draw others to a heavenly eternal paradise. He desires for all to be saved and works in countless ways to accomplish his will.

Peter wrote in 1 Peter 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Do you see the transforming power of the word of God in that passage? The world conforms us to all those evil qualities in verse one, but the power of God’s Word in verse two transforms our mind and soul from them. Peter writes how we grow as a result of our desire to read God’s pure Word. I promise you, your life will change when you begin to read your Bible every day as Peter and Paul have written. Satan is content with your Christian profession and your Sunday religion, but he fears the power of prayer and the heart that seeks the wisdom found in the Bible. Satan knows you will be transformed and a threat to his earthly kingdom. Will you pick up the only offensive weapon in your spiritual arsenal, become a new person, and live your life for the One who gives you eternal life? Pray and seek Him today and let him renew your mind and transform you for tomorrow.

Pebbles and Ripples

Pebbles and Ripples

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

There is so much in this passage, so much more that speaks to the context of the passage when Moses spent time with God. Moses came down off the mountain and his face shined so bright from being in God’s presence, that he covered it to keep from scaring the children. Did they notice; did they even notice the fading away? There is much to discuss there, but let’s look past that at what is in the passage above. The veil is taken away; the glory of God is revealed. When you come to know and accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord, there is freedom found in your new life. Liberty is that freedom that Paul is describing here. Eternal freedom from the condemnation that the Old Covenant with Moses brought. Faith in Jesus Christ gives you the keys to heaven.

Also in this passage is God’s goal for your life; to transform you into the image of his Son. This is a lifelong process called sanctification, and a process that God uses the changes in your life to draw others to him. You are like the first ripple in a pool, that keeps rolling out, but that ripple started when someone shared the gospel with you. They were the pebble that he dropped into your pool. The power of the gospel is so intertwined with sanctification. The closer you draw to God through his Word and prayer, the more your reflect Christ, the more you share Christ. It begins with the gospel and it continues with sanctification.

You will never understand God’s Word, the Bible, until you humble yourself and allow Christ to become your Lord and Savior. He then gives you the promise of the Holy Spirit, God himself, to live inside of you. It is never through diligent study, never through any teacher or preacher, but only time and every time is the truth of God’s Word revealed to you every time by the Spirit. 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. God may use his saints to open his truths to you, but you have been blessed by the Holy Spirit with that revelation. After God drops the pebble of Christ in your pool, let him do the daily work of sanctification in you to push his ripples farther and farther out into the sea.

The Way

The Way

Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

Your like is but a journey
Your time is limited here;
After this comes eternity
With Christ there lies no fear.

For the love the Father has for you
Through his grace He bestowed;
His Son was sacrificed to pay a debt
His blood covered the debt that was owed.

For your short time here
God has want one thing to do;
To conform you to His image
He wants to see Christ in you.

The closer you become like Him
The more you will obtain;
The ability to hear from God
You life will never be the same.

As Christ ascended into heaven
What would be the last words he would speak?
A call of self sacrifice to discipleship
A call not for the weak.

Would you forsake all for Him
Just as He did for you?
Would you put Him at the top of your list
Is there anything you wouldn’t do?

Discipleship is a journey
Sanctification is the key;
A heart that truly seeks him
Is the way it must be.

What an honor it will be one day
To bow at His feet and hear Him say;
Well done good and faithful servant
You truly understood the way.
