Frozen or overflowing?

Frozen or overflowing?

John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

It was the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles. The celebration ended with a ceremony that commemorated when God provided water for the Israelites from the rock while they were in the desert for 40 years. It was the highlight of the show if you will allow me. Christ at that time stole the show when He spoke these words; 37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Jesus had left the crowd in awe; some saw him as a prophet, some as who he was, but they were all in awe of him. They truly knew that something was special about him. But, what did He speak about? He was proclaiming the gift of the Holy Spirit that would be given to them when He ascended back into heaven. This Gift would bless, comfort, teach, all that would receive Him. Not only that, but through the Holy Spirit many would be blessed through his outpouring in the believers life; rivers of living water to those that would receive him.

If you claim Christianity, is your river of living water overflowing into the lives of others, or is it frozen up? Is there evidence of your life as one that is full of the Holy Spirit, hopefully to the point He spills into the lives of others? Would they say, or do they feel His presence in you? If the only evidence of your Christianity is Sunday, your river is a small stream. The Holy Spirit may be alive in you, but your attention to all that is of the world is drying him up. Are you grieving him by your daily thoughts and actions that point to the hold the world has on you? Do you pain him how you deny those convictions of sins he points out to you? Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Those painful pricks that He points out to you are the tugs on your heart to repent and draw near to God. Repent of your sins, and get back near God with daily time spent in his Word and prayer. That is how you nurture, or feed the Holy Spirit that is living inside of you. You feed him with a hearts desire for Him, and time spent with him in God’s Word. He in return, nurtures you by the wisdom he reveals to you in God’s Word. He opens up the truths of God to you, and that tugs your heart to yearn for more. This river of life begins to grow in you, and begins to spill it’s banks to those He puts around you.

A Bottomless Well

A Bottomless Well

John 7:37-39     On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

It was this time of year, early Fall, at the Feast of the Booths, or Tabernacles; a feast to celebrate the Harvest and God’s protection in the Jews delivery from slavery out of Egypt. Those in Christ midst were wanting to go up to the feast, and Christ had told them to go ahead without him. He had left and gone secretly up to the feast; he had heard people talking about him secretly to themselves; he had heart them speaking of who he was, or was not. He boldly entered the Temple and began to teach. In this instance is one of those times they sought to arrest Him, yet they never laid hands on him; 30 Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. There was becoming division everywhere over Christ; they all marveled at his “uneducated” teaching; they marveled at the signs he performed; they argued whether he was the Christ they were seeking. They did not understand so much of his teaching, for God had not opened their eyes to the mystery that was found in Christ. Only a few truly believed that He was the Son of God.

On the last day of the Feast, Christ proclaimed the scriptures above in John. He spoke of the Holy Spirit which would be given to believers after Christ was glorified on the Cross. Christ’s Spirit would come to dwell inside all of those that believed in Him. The Holy Spirit that dwells inside of you is the river of living water that flows out of you. Christ spoke to the Samaritan women at the well of this living water; John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” This living water is a water that fills you with something that the world cannot; fills you to the point of overflowing into the lives of others; give you something you seemingly don’t want to contain, but want to share with others what you possess.

Christ spoke of this gift in John 14:15-31, he speaks of the Helper that God is giving us when Christ ascends back into heaven. 14:25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. If God is tugging on your heart, answer that desire that is welling up inside you. Repent of your sins, plea for forgiveness, and open your heart to the living water that fills it. Your life will never be the same, and likely those God has placed around you will not be either.

Living water

Living water

John 7: 37-39    On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

What do you feel inside
Is the Spirit yearning to get out?
Is your hearts desire
To share what life is truly about?

Are you so close to Christ
That His proofs from you show?
Living the Great Commission
In faith you will go.

When He dwells in you
Your hope you cannot contain;
Peace and security are found
For in you He will remain.

He brings light to scripture
He opens your mind through your heart;
He brings scripture to memory
His words never depart.

He gives you hope to share
He gives you life they do see;
He uses you to draw
Them closer to Thee.

He brings comfort like none other
He dwells in you to teach;
His greatest work is found
In humble hearts as they preach.

Living water is inside you
Eternal life it will bring;
Open your mouth and share
From it He will spring.

Thristy?

Thristy?

John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

I swear sometimes I think God has a sense of humor. As I lay there this morning watching all the weather channels speak of extreme heat, all they spoke about was hydrating. I then moved over to Reflections and the scripture above was the first one on the screen. I laughed out loud.

Christ was speaking at a great feast (Feast of the Tabernacles), and a large part of that feast was a ritual honoring when God had produced water from a rock for the Israelites when they were in the desert for 40 years. But Christ was telling them of things to come after His departure; and the gift of the Holy Spirit whom He gives to us. John 7:39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. We not only benefit from all that Christ gave us on the Cross for Salvation, we also with that are given His Spirit that comes to live inside us. Christ’s Spirit living inside of you. Do you get the weight of those few words?

That gift is the second greatest gift anyone could ever receive. It comes without even asking with a repentant heart seeking Christ as the Savior of our souls. Once He dwells within us, we begin to live a transformed life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. We begin to see things differently, act differently, speak differently, all because He is living inside us. Those around us take notice and are given that living water to drink that He pours out from us. John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” You can have all these things too. Humble your heart before God, repent of your sins, and ask Christ to forgive you and become the Lord of your life. You will never thirst again.

The eternal well

My heart lies in encouraging others to spend daily time with God. It is when and where you will truly begin to see real change in your life, by following the principle of Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first….” As I was studying this scripture, I saw that application there. Returning to the well to nourish ourselves. If you will do this one thing, God will take care of all the rest for you, it will simply fall into place. Daily time with God will change you like none other next to Salvation.

The eternal well

John 7:38      He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

Many times in the bible we hear of Christ as the Living Water. Here He is speaking of the Holy Spirit that will dwell in us as the great supplier of our needs for our time here on earth. He is the fountain that continually flows, providing wisdom and discernment through the revelation of the scriptures to us. He is the great Enabler. John 6:35 says, “ And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” These are His promises for eternity.

How many times do you satisfy your thirst every day? We are told that we can only live for 3-5 days without water, so how often do you replenish your Living Water by spending time at the fountain in God’s Word? If this Word through Christ and the Holy Spirit is the fountain of life, then we must return daily to replenish what has been poured out on us, and hopefully through us to others, in the previous day. Are we robbing ourselves of the eternal water daily and the blessings that will come to us, and through us by coming to the well? How can we not go the the well to meet Jesus every day?
