Matters of the Heart

Matters of the Heart

Matthew 13:51-52 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

In my downtime after surgery I wanted to go through the Gospels again. I am constantly amazed by the living Word of God that reveals new truths as I read what I have read many times before. Read Matthew chapter 13 in its entirety. Jesus is speaking in parables and explaining why he is speaking in parables. This is a common question to people who read the Bible, but the answer is found in Matthew 13. Do you want to understand the word of God? That desire must come from within, deep within, for it is a matter of the heart, and not the head. Many people in that day were stuck in the traditions of men known as religion, seeking God by following the rules trying to find him through their own works.

You will never find heaven through religion, you will only find heaven through a relationship with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Heaven comes through a humble repentant heart realizing the only way to get there is a matter of a humble repentant heart. The only thing you must do, is accept that is the only thing you can do. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John14:6NKJV). Heaven is not found in your church attendance record or by living a good life by any standard. Religion kills, Jesus saves.

The evidence of the necessity of a heart seeking God, and not a head seeking God, is proclaimed in Matthew 13. If you are feeling those two hugs of the heart, that is God pursuing you first, and wanting to open up the truth of his Word to you. You must understand that he pursues you first through your heart, and how you respond to that tug determines your eternity. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived wrote; I applied my heart to know, To search and seek out wisdom and the reason of things, To know the wickedness of folly, Even of foolishness and madness. (Ecclesiastes7:25 NKJV). He sought God, wisdom and understanding through matters of the heart, not the head. You can only know Him, and be granted a glimpse of understanding through a matter of the heart.
