The Way

The Way

Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

Your like is but a journey
Your time is limited here;
After this comes eternity
With Christ there lies no fear.

For the love the Father has for you
Through his grace He bestowed;
His Son was sacrificed to pay a debt
His blood covered the debt that was owed.

For your short time here
God has want one thing to do;
To conform you to His image
He wants to see Christ in you.

The closer you become like Him
The more you will obtain;
The ability to hear from God
You life will never be the same.

As Christ ascended into heaven
What would be the last words he would speak?
A call of self sacrifice to discipleship
A call not for the weak.

Would you forsake all for Him
Just as He did for you?
Would you put Him at the top of your list
Is there anything you wouldn’t do?

Discipleship is a journey
Sanctification is the key;
A heart that truly seeks him
Is the way it must be.

What an honor it will be one day
To bow at His feet and hear Him say;
Well done good and faithful servant
You truly understood the way.

Apprehended

Apprehended

Philippians 3:12-13   Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

It might be easy at a quick glance of this scripture to see a pride welling up in Paul. But it is far from that; it is a humbling revelation of the desire to attain that which he cannot. Paul had spent the prior verses speaking of giving his life wholly to Christ; of seeking to emulate Christ in all of his life. Paul pressed into sainthood as deep as anyone could, yet he understood he could never attain that goal in this life. It will only be when Christ returns and sin is wiped from this world, that we live in perfect union and conformity with God. It is that eternal goal, or prize, that we live our Christian lives in pursuit of. Our lives are bound by our faith, and works that are a product of that faith, are the levels of reward we seek. There is no greater reward that to stand at Christ’s feet and hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)

You must understand that you didn’t “find” Christ. Christ sought you first, and you either responded to his invitation, or you denied him. 1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us. There comes with this understanding of His pursuit of you, a change of heart. You may well up in joy and pride of the revelation of Salvation, but a deeper understanding is found when you realize that it was nothing of your doing, but simply a response to a heavenly call upon your life. This brings about a new level of thanksgiving, a deeper desire of grateful service, a longing to give up the things that matter no longer for the eternal pursuit of what does. A heart that realizes that you are a chosen child of God, is a heart that desires to become a disciple of Christ in the pursuit of living their lives for him. Those things that mattered before, now seem worthless.

How much is Christ stirring in your soul today? Are you claiming to know Him, yet not living your life for Him? He gave his life up for you; is it not too much to ask for you to do the same for him? This world will distract you every day in every way from growing closer to Christ. This world is not living for Christ, so are you living for the world, or for him? If you will spend some time in alone with God in genuine, humble prayer; He will likely reveal himself to you and open your eyes through your heart. When he does, you either grow closer to him than ever before, or you run away. Pray and let Christ apprehend your life like he did Paul’s, and live your life in pursuit of him.

The steering wheel

The steering wheel

Matthew 16:25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

As I prayed this morning it was a prayer of thanksgiving. Of the grace and mercy I have been shown; of forgiveness and salvation; of how the realization of these gifts has drawn me to a focused heart that desires a closeness with Him. The realization of a life before Christ, and the life after Christ will pull you to worship. That life before was depraved and full of sin, but that was before; and this is now as a person who desires to hear the words, “well done good and faithful servant.”  I want to be close to the One who delivered me, the One who saved me, the One who gave His life for me, the One who Redeemed me.

Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Right there is the gospel of Christ in one sentence. Sin, sacrifice, and forgiveness for a humble repentant heart. This drives me now. It drives me to a place of worship for the act that delivered me from the pit of hell I was headed to. It drives me to a place of desire to know more, to feed on the Word He has given me. It drives me as a breath of life to my lungs every day. It drives me to seek Him when all else seems lost. It drives me to share with you every single day a changed heart; a heart that desires you to have everything I have experienced and all that is available to you too.

My heart is no longer driven by pride, but by humility in the understanding of my life before Him, and how underserving I am, yet of the great love He has for me. I want you to know all this is there for you too. I want you to know that you can have peace in an out of control world that is dying in sin all around you. I want you to know that He can place in your heart an eternal desire that drives you down this road of life headed into eternity with Him. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. You have all that you need lying just within your grasp. All it takes is a humble repentant heart that desires to know Him and serve Him. Letting go and letting God become the steering wheel of your life will become the path to paradise.

Is it Monday again already?

Is it Monday again already?

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Uggg….Monday morning and back to work. Some of us have the blahs for returning to our duties for the week ahead. We may not like where we are and  at some point the drudgery enters in on any career. We wonder what our reward will be for our diligence in performing the tasks that lay before us. But what about the possibility of our eternal underlying work being judged every day? Every move, thought, action, or even lack of action is being watched by our “boss” and we will stand before Him in the pinnacle of review. 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Very scary thought, but reality none the less.

We all have and do sin every day, and that will never change. But do we strive to be the best we can in all situations, and bring glory to Christ? Do we always reflect the negative, or do we look for the light in all circumstances and try to point them out? Those tugs you feel to do the right thing at hard times are God at work in you. He is trying to use you to reflect Christ that lives in you to others, to reach them. All your “works” that you do in your every day do not go unnoticed. Matthew 25:23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ We must understand that we are not saved by these good deeds though for it comes only through Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Our ultimate goal in life should be to live righteously as we can in a world far from God. To strive to attain an eternal paradise with our Creator and to have Him utter these words to us at our review. Matthew 25:His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant;” This is the only work that matters, for the only One whom matters, and your focus will last you eternally.
