Love as He does

Love as He does

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I was saying yesterday on Facebook how I don’t mix politics and religion; I pick religion. The passion that was in so many posts yesterday regarding Amendment 1 was coming through on both sides. It was on many stations that I listen to also. I did not vote, therefore I am not allowed to have an opinion, but I can understand some of the viewpoints on both sides. It does however hurt me to see the political arena bring such strong emotions and many times as Christians we begin to not act like Christians. We are to emulate Christ and the love of Christ. We must look past our differences on many fronts and have love for one another. 1 Peter 4:And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

God is a God of love and the book of 1 John is a great place to read of God’s love for us. In this short book John uses different forms of the word love 46 times trying to press the understanding of the importance of love we are to emulate. The more time you spend with God and begin to develop that relationship, the more you will begin to emulate Christ. You begin to see how you walk every day in His grace and mercy. That realization produces an outpouring of thanksgiving of a grateful heart full of love for Him. You will begin to see things in a different light and that hate that the world produces will flee from you. Light dis-spells darkness and in “that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5) Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

BFF

BFF

John 15:13-15 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

His friend….really? How do we move from humbling ourselves before Him, to becoming what He would call a friend. Christ was speaking to the apostles here in John and encouraging them from how their relationship has grown. We cannot call someone a friend that we have had one chance meeting, maybe at a time of despair, and then never spoke again. Friendships are really cultivated relationships that develop and grow together. Friendships are highly valued to us by the way God wired us at creation, and no other friendship should carry the value that Christ does. He is the only One who can truly promise to be our BFF (Best Friend Forever). After our first meeting with Him upon Salvation, how do we grow into becoming friends of Christ? It is through time with Him just as in any relationship, and becoming intimidators of Him, to live as He lived.  Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

It is a fact that those we spend the most time with, we begin to resemble. They rub off on us, and unknowingly we become more like them in how we conduct ourselves. When we begin to seek God, and the things of Christ, we begin to spill out the love of Christ in our thoughts and actions. God is a God of love and Christ set the example of love through his humble servant heart for us to follow. John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.   We begin to think and speak differently for we begin to see things as Christ sees them through the eyes of God’s plans for redemption, and the sacrifices He made for us. A peace comes over our lives and we seek to do the Will of God in our lives to follow His plan and play a small part. Matthew 12:50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” To become a friend of Christ, you must first humble yourself and accept Him into your heart for eternity. At that point, for eternity, you can begin to develop your friendship with the Creator and Savior of the universe of whom all blessings flow.

Heavenly Love 01/25/12

This morning I was laying in bed watching a Christian TV show that just has beautiful pictures, and rolling scriptures. Today’s scripture verse rolled across the screen and I knew that was what God wanted me to write about. It has been so refreshing to not go to sleep (we do sleep with the TV on), and awake to the newscasts. My mind just simply feels clearer and more alert to the things of God, without all the mayhem that creates all that static between us. I hope you all have received a blessing as a result of our New Years resolution to Fast from the news. I honestly plan on continuing for some time. I just don’t miss it. Hope you have a great day, and I have some exciting news coming down the pipe about what you have unknowingly spurred me to do here ever day. I have secured a domain name, and a blog where I am in the process of getting ready to start these OneMinuteMinistries and continue sharing what God is revealing to me each day. I thank all of you for playing your part and the encouragement you have given me to do this, more than you realize.

Heavenly Love

1 Corinthians 13:    And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

God is a God of love, and you must possess love to emulate Christ. Chapter 13 is all about love and a great description of that love lies between verses 4-8. We cannot claim to be a Christian, and not have love for our fellow man. But we say, “How can I? Look at what they did!” What if Christ had said the same thing about you and I and the Redemption never came at Calvary? Their is no higher sacrifice that what Christ did for you, all from love, for all your sins past, present, and future. Once you realize that, humility and love come as a product of the reality of the Redemption.

The world we live in breeds only love for ourselves. Another reality of the depravity of the world that we live in, but once you are saved, you are no longer of this world. Faith is realization of the power of God for Creation and Redemption of the entire world. Hope is where place our security of future paradise with great expectation and the peace of living for that. Matthew Henry said of when we reach heaven “There is no room to believe and hope, when we see and enjoy. But there, love will be made perfect. There we shall perfectly love God. And there we shall perfectly love one another. Blessed state! how much surpassing seen as He is, and face to face, there charity is in its greatest height; there only will it be perfected.” Come Lord Jesus, come.
