Get Help

1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I have never been a “go to the doctor” guy, only to the ER for emergencies, and I have had my share of them through the years. I am against the societal problem we have of prescription drugs on so many levels, from the corruption of big-pharma in the power struggle of societal control, to the intimacy of individuals struggling on every level as their pawns. I have not had a physical for well over 10 years for those reasons, and even a few others, but something has changed the last couple of years. At 55 I decided to improve what I could control, my diet, and made steps doing so. I went a year with no soft drinks, eating a little better and definitely less, and dropped over 20 lbs and I feel much better. I am continuing the pursuit of my physical improvement in more ways this year, that is a journey that requires determination and will power to do so. God wired me that way, once I put my mind to it, Lord willing, I will accomplish it. There is also a big pride struggle wrapped up into that, but God is also keeping me humble in the realization that I cannot beat father time, my body ain’t what it used to be. I have worked hard and played hard all my life, and I am feeling those pains much more since hitting 50. I have said the thirties and forties did not get me, but fifty kicked me in the teeth.

The real struggle is that I can’t seem to fix my mental health, the struggles with anxiety and depression. I have always been open with them, I have nothing to hide and am not ashamed of it. I love how God has placed those in my path for great conversations. They have both gotten much worse the last couple of years, and I could write a book on that roller-coaster of emotions that come with them, they both make life hard to do when they get as bad as they have been. The red flag for me was when I began to not like doing the things I relax doing, the ways I escaped life’s struggles became struggles. I love working on bikes, shop time, riding, racing, everything with my boys. They became struggles, frustrations at the simplest things, outbursts, withdrawals, there became no way of escaping, and that became scary once I realized it. There are many dark roads Satan will take you down when depressions cloud becomes darker, and the evil thoughts go deeper. It scared me when I traveled those roads and I knew I had to swallow my pride and go seek help.

In a God orchestrated conversation, a great friend recommended his doctor, a man of faith that God gave me to talk to. We spent more time talking about our faith, than we did about me. I share all of the above with him, and told him how I had fought it with my faith, and time in prayer and God’s Word. He applauded that type of faith, and encouraged me that God used his gifts and today’s medicine to help me. Did you know Luke was a doctor, (Colossians 4:14 Luke the beloved physician, …) and he wrote two books in the Bible, the Gospel of Luke, and the account of the church’s growth in the book of Acts. He completely understood my stance, and we agreed on a low dose to take the edge off. I have since went back and we upped it for six months for me to evaluate. I can honestly say I feel better, and I already see God placing friends in my path to encourage them do likewise, to swallow their pride and seek help too.

God does not look down on you for seeking help in any way, period. God works in so many ways to draw us closer to him, so many ways that we don’t understand, Isaiah 55:8-9. Satan may come to God and desire permission for some evil to us, and God may permit it because he sees the good in the outcome, many times drawing us closer to him as a result of our enemies troubles upon us. Romans 8:28. God does not like our pride, and I am a prideful man that he must continue to work on keeping me humble in so many ways. My physical testimony and my mental testimony are both works of a loving God on a guy who desires him to not give up on me, and to hear those words, Well done good and faithful servant.” I want to finish strong, to be focused on sharing my faith to all God places in my path that he has prepared to hear. I do not want my personal struggles to keep me withdrawn, and all alone to not good. I thank God for dealing me another pride blow of his hammer on this hard headed guy, not moldable like clay, but hard as stone. If God is working on your pride too, trying to make you realize you need help, pray first, and then seek a doctors help also. I did, and I thank God for it.

You can’t do it

Luke 18:27 But He said, “The things whichare impossible with men are possible with God.”

Well ya see God

I have been pretty good,

At church most Sundays

Staying out of the hood.

I give to the poor

I try to help the weak,

Since I am so bold

I try to speak for the meek.

The Bible says do this

And says don’t do that,

So weighing in your scales

Must be where it is at.

I must track my mistakes

We all sure do sin,

But if I work real hard

Heaven’s ticket I will win.

Lots of things I can do

To unlock the pearly gate,

What do you mean no

My pride has sealed my fate?

I believe in John 14:6

In access to heaven through you,

But there has to be so much more

What else must I do?

I thought you were the door

And my deeds were the key,

All my good in this life

Would open heaven for me.

So you have done it all

No scales in heaven are found,

I only must believe that

God’s grace alone will abound.

The free gift I accept

In this grace I believe,

Let me give my life now

For more love that I can conceive.

The good I do now in life

Is from love and not for pay,

Through the gift of God alone

Will I get to heaven one day.

Turn from______________

Turn from______________

Acts 2:11   Has a nation changed its gods,which are not gods?But My people have changed their Glory for what does not profit. (ESV)

Israel were God’s chosen people. God had delivered them from slavery in an incredible way. God had guided them through the desert for 40 year and provided for their needs. He had taken them into a land of milk and honey, yet in all of this they fought among themselves and began to worship other gods. They were a stiff-necked people; they are the pinnacle example of the mercy of God. Their people group still exists today as the evidence of a loving God that will not break his eternal promises, a God that shows mercy when total wrath is what is deserved. They are the proof, that we are to all look inwardly at ourselves for the evidences of His mercy.

I relate to Jeremiah so much. I know in my ministry I am called to one of repentance. I had my idols, my pride, my life that was far from God. He humbled me greatly, and continues to do so in so many ways. In my testimony I have seen and feel that need for a repentant life; more than a repentant life for Salvation, but a lifestyle of repentance to pursue an abiding relationship with Christ. I and you fail daily, therefore we should repent daily. What if today were your last, and you carried those un-repented sins to the feet of Jesus? What would you say? What would He say? King David gives us the example of a humble heart seeking God’s forgiveness in Psalm 51 where he repented of his sins with Bathsheba.

1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just when You speak,[a]
And blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.
18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

Be holy, for I am holy

Be holy, for I am holy

1 Peter 1:13-15    Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Drugs, women, toys, and booze
These were the things I used to choose;
Numbing pains & hiding fears
Wasting my life for so many years.

Christ rescued me from them
He delivered me from sin;
He changed my life eternally
He started from within.

My life changed forever
I have eternal focus now;
I seek not temporal pleasure
But to serve Him somehow.

By Holy for I am holy
Words to live by every day;
The world teaches self pleasure
In that you will never find the Way.

Change begins at the Cross
What Christ accomplished and gave you there;
You can never change without Him
All other roads lead to nowhere.

When you come to him broken
And you are empty inside;
He will fill you with great hope
You will not be able to hide.

Seek to live your life in honor
of what He gave you that day;
Be holy for I am holy
Is your desire to repay.

Lane Change

Lane Change

John 4:34-38     Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

God changed lanes on me this morning as I reflected on the evangelistic message in the scriptures above. The Spirit began to press on me a sin that I had not repented for. It was a sin of how I discipline my boys; verbally; but I have been praying for help on. Satan wants to condemn me in it, the Spirit wants to help me with it.

I sit here this morning
Seeking God early in the day;
I have an eager heart
For in Him I find the way.

He comes in the scriptures
Speaking of spreading His name;
Of giving people a hope
Forgiveness of sin, not to blame.

He then presses on me
Points to sins that cause pain;
Of how deep my need for Him
From them I must refrain.

My words can be strong
They can build up and tear down;
I pray for forgiveness
Mercy and grace to abound.

I pray for change
From the inside out
The work only He can do
The work I cannot do without.

I seek to spread His name
For the hope that lies within,
To share of a future paradise
To experience forgiveness of sin.

When Satan comes he presses
He makes the sin hurt deep,
When the Spirit comes and presses
He reminds you of what you can keep.

The Holy Word of God
Reveals much to you;
From sins to a Savior
All you must do is pursue.

Bond of Perfection

Bond of Perfection

James 2:14-18   Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? 15 For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved 16 and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup – where does that get you? 17 Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? 18 I can already hear one of you agreeing by saying, “Sounds good. You take care of the faith department, I’ll handle the works department.” Not so fast. You can no more show me your works apart from your faith than I can show you my faith apart from my works. Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove. (The Message)

The book of James is like the guidebook to the application side of Christianity. It tells you very plainly about the trials of life, and how to deal with them. It calls you to put your faith in action; to step out and live what you proclaim. Do you? Is there any evidences in your life six days a week, to what you proclaim on one? How does your language reflect the depth of the eternal gift you have been given? James asks the hard questions; James calls your faith into action no matter what circumstance God has placed in your path. He calls you to live out your faith, for “faith without works is dead faith.”

I saw this type of faith in action yesterday. It moved me in a powerful way. I reflected on it, and was blessed by it. People showing the love of Christ to those who deny Him; not projecting the hate that society tries to label the Christians with today. Christianity is becoming the minority in a society that is filled with equality; a society that believes all paths lead to God; a society that will not adhere to the Laws of God, and accountability found in them for the fear of offending. But the Christian that speaks out is labeled with hate, labeled in many ways that do not portray the love of Christ. Sadly in many circumstances, the Christians zeal has overtaken the love and peace that Christ proclaimed. Colossians 3:14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

Pray that God will do a mighty work in your heart to help you show the love of Christ to those that need Him. Pray that He will give you the compassion for your fellow man that needs the love of Him. Pray that He will open your eyes to the plight of those lost in their sin. Pray that He will show you a way, to show them the love that you possess; a love that surpasses understanding; a love that gives as only He can through you. It is in this type of love that a heart becomes inquisitive; and an inquisitive heart is a heart that God may be using you to draw them to Himself.

Fill it and experience it

Fill it and experience it

2 Thessalonians 2:13-17    But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Paul in the prior verses had just told the Thessalonians in this letter of the great falling away; the great apostasy of the church. He speaks of Satan at the peak of his limited power, and of how Christ will defeat him. 2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. All of works of Satan and the anti-christ will be over shadowed by the glorious return of Christ in that day. The Thessalonians must understand that they are chosen by God, and must live their lives in the security of their belief. They are to live with the assurance of that faith that lies within them.

This scripture ties the power of the Spirit that is living inside you, to the power of the Word that He has given you. The two are inseparable; they cannot work alone.  I love how my study Bible puts it: “The Spirit without the Word is mute, He has nothing to say. The Word without the Spirit is lifeless, is has no power to act. The work of the Spirit is always united with the work of the Word to convict the believer of the truth.” When you experience Salvation, His Spirit comes to live inside you. The Spirit opens your mind to the things of Christ; without Him you mind has a closed door to the Word. Christ told his disciples of the power that he will give to them when he ascended into heaven. This same Spirit is available to all believers today. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

There are so many roads to go down when you come to understand that the Holy Spirit comes to live inside you upon your faith in Jesus Christ and his power to forgive sin. John 14:6 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever– 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. You are missing the boat and missing the greatest blessing in your life if you claim Christ, but do not spend time in His Word. Your life is but an empty jar, waiting to be filled. Your life will never be the same once you possess the Spirit that brings life to the words of the Living Word. You will begin to see things you have never seen before in the Bible. God’s glorious message will become revealed to you and awaken your soul for your time here. Open it, read it, experience it for yourself.

Early Hope

Early Hope

Psalm 63:1 A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.

The day has not yet dawned,
I arise early to seek You;
I move from slumber to your presence
You are here to meet me too.

The expectant heart tugs
Seeking my Lord every day;
In prayer and His Word
To find strength and the way.

The world teaches self
No time for Him only me;
He teaches selflessness
As disciples lives should be.

Where is your focus
What are your first thoughts?
The tasks for the day
Or the One whom you were bought?

You say you want change
From Him you want more;
A heart daily seeking Him
Finds what is in store.

Daily prayer and his Word
Should be priorities in your day;
To prepare and align your heart
Through them He shows the way.

Alone you will fail
Together you will succeed;
The Book of Life, God’s spoken words
Will meet your daily need.

My life forever changed
When I opened His book
Starting my every day in there
Eternal hope is what I took.

Peace in an out of control world

Peace in an out of control world

Romans 11:33-36    Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?” 36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Yesterday I had a great conversation with another contractor who uses his business as a ministry. We stood out in the parking lot and shared our faith. He asked what one word I would use to encourage someone; His one word was obey, my one word was peace. All throughout the Bible we are shown and must come to understand the Sovereignty of God. Sovereignty is simply defined as a supreme power; God is the definition of THE supreme power. When you read the Bible as a whole, you come to understand the complexity of God’s plan; but at the same time the centrality and simplicity of His plan to offer Salvation to all, and to draw all to Him for eternal paradise. In that understanding comes the peace that my one word describes.

Romans 11 is the apostle Paul’s detailed description of how Israel fits into God’s ultimate plan to save all the world. Paul goes into detail of God continues to offer grace to His beloved people time and time again; His plans even come to use their rebellion to offer Salvation to the rest of the world. Everything that Israel has ever done, and will ever do, all falls under the Sovereignty of God’s design. He either designed it, or allowed it, but it all will work for his purpose. Our simple minds cannot grasp a speck of the mind of God. But when we come to grasp that understanding, their is a release of our burdens to Him; for we know that He is in control of it ALL.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. This passage is one that we as Christians must lean on in difficult situations in life. This is Sovereignty defined; “all things word together”; we cannot understand how the difficult situations in life can possible be for our, or work out for our good. We only see the present tumults or pain in them; we don’t see past them. But with the heart of understanding comes the peace in them. He has a purpose “for good to those who love God” in every situation in our lives. If you pursue Him with all your heart, He will open your eyes to that Peace I am trying to describe.

Have you heard?

Have you heard?

Romans 9:15-21    For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. 19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? (ESV)

I timidly tread on this scripture that is steep in theology; I am not qualified to take on the arguments that can be presented here on Election and Sovereignty. I fully accept and rest in the grace of Sovereignty; if it is by Election I rest in that also. What grabs me here is the question found in it; “Why have you made me like this?”. That question is one that we have all most likely gone before God asking. I still in my struggles with sin seemingly go before God with it; I must understand that the sanctification process is a life-long road I must travel. The more time I spend with God in his Word and prayer, the more sin is revealed to me. Even Paul continued to struggle in that realization of sin, of how he wanted to be a better man, but still failed continually. Romans 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Let me present a simplified question on the topic of Election found in these scriptures. If you are even realizing, and questioning God on life here and thereafter, is that not evidence that He is already in pursuit of your heart, and you are a chosen child? Those blinded to Him never see or question any evidences of Him. That tug on your heart you feel, should make you feel special; you are a chosen child of God. The evidences of the evil in this world today are proofs of Satan’s power that surrounds us. God’s leash on him is stretching out just before time for Christ’s return to pull him back and put him up forever. These days that lie before us are not days guaranteed, but evidences of the need for you to repent of your sins and draw near to Christ for eternal rewards. The gospel is going out into all the world at an incredible rate with the evolution of the internet; missionaries are presenting the Good News to places that have never heard. All of this must happen before His return, and it is happening NOW! God has made you “like this” for a purpose; that purpose is to draw you to Him, and that his glory can be revealed in you. We are forgiven by the blood of the Lamb, and able to share by the word of our testimonies.

I love how a good friend of mine always closes his letters,

Until all have heard
