Overcome the World

Overcome the World

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

I will tell you how my brain works; how I begin to study the Bible most days. I am a word search guy mostly. It may be something I am directly dealing with, many times it is something that comes to mind while in prayer. I always pray before studying God’s Word. This morning as I sat on the porch, the weight of life was sinking in on me; I was feeling overwhelmed, or overcome by it. I am under a great load at work, and a great load around the home, and feeling the pressures of everything to do with India. We all have those days we feel overcome by the pressures of life. This morning I came in and began to search overcome, seeing where God led me. I realized in Satan’s attacks, were hidden blessings. I realized Satan’s monetary attacks were truly financial eternal investments. I realized I was a chosen child of God……

John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. What is the inspiration in the middle of that tribulation? “I chose you” is what Jesus said to his disciples. I am not opening the door of theological arguments of election, but God choses you just as he chose the twelve apostles. There is a joy of the heart that overcomes tribulation when you realize you are a chosen child of God.

1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. When you are that chosen child of God, humbling yourself in a repentant plea before him, his salvation comes with his Spirit living inside of you. You are blessed to have God living in your heart. The Great Comforter, the encourager, the teacher of all things holy is living in your heart. The Holy Spirit is imparting the truths of God to you from his Word when you study it. He is whispering to you warnings against sins before you commit it. He is giving you strength to face the day, in whatever lies before you. You are never alone, but have God by your side continually. He says, “I will never leave you.”

1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith. Are you living your daily life as an example of your faith? Do those around you know that you are a Christian by your actions and speech? Daily time in prayer and God’s Word will transform you into his disciple. You cannot spend daily time there and remain the same. You will become more like him, and less like the world. When the world seeks to convince you otherwise, search him out in prayer and meditation on his truths. He will convince you that you have overcome the world.

Fatherly Rebuke

Fatherly Rebuke

Hebrews 12:6    6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

Chapter 11 in Hebrews is the chapter of the heros of faith such as Moses and Abraham. It speaks of all those in the Old Testament that both suffered, and or persevered through their faith. Then as we go into Chapter 12, it speaks of the sufferings we may also face as a child of God.  “For consider Him (Christ) who endured such hostility….lest you become weary and discouraged” (vs.3). God is the perfect Father whom both will reward and discipline. He is truly our role model as fathers ourselves, but we simply cannot hold to His standards. We are more concerned with being our children’s friends, than our children’s parents.

Some come to faith, as a means of escaping the woes of this world. They have been told that once they become Christians, life will be easy. But if we accept that God is our Father, we must accept the rebuke of Him. Because He is just, He only could not rebuke perfection, and the only perfection that has walked this earth, was His Son, that was sent here to die for our sins. “But if you are without chastening, of which you all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not sons.” (vs. 8). That is a scary verse if you come to faith on those grounds, and continue to sin, living a life of ease without rebuke. Matthew Henry said “to go on in sin without a rebuke is a sad sing of alienation from God.” Proverbs 3:11-12  “ My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction;  For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights”. Be thankful when God convicts you, and punishes you for a sin, for you have the security that you are a child of His.
