He ascended

He ascended

Matthew 28:1-7    Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

I have been struggling with what to write this morning……my mind is going down so many roads that I want to take you……. I imagine the good news of today, the celebration of our Lord rising from the dead, conquering death, providing eternal life, all for you and me. I could go down the road of the unthinkable sacrifice; of the pain of sin and death of His creation placed on His back. But that was Friday; this is Sunday, and He is Risen; He is risen indeed! Surely you understand you are going to die someday. Most likely you believe there is a life after this one. Even at your core you must believe their is either punishment or reward awaiting you. Christ conquered death at the Cross, and provided you the pathway to eternal paradise with Him in heaven. He rose from the grave by His own power, conquering death forever. 1 Corinthians 15:55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the Good News!

You must understand today is the hinge of which the door of Christianity opens; Christ rose from the dead to ascend back to sit at the right hand of the Father. Paul spoke directly to this in 1 Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Do you believe? Do you believe that He was placed in that tomb a dead physical man, and arose from the dead an eternal living king? Do you believe that He was the only perfect sacrifice that could atone for your sins? He died a physical death, and arose an eternal Savior and Lord. He appeared to many before ascending back to sit at the right hand of God. There were many recorded proofs of His resurrection that are found in the New Testament. If today does not represent the foundation of your faith, you will pay for eternity for your mistake.

My heart rejoices today for I understand what today truly represents. My heart also hurts for those that have not heard this Good News, or worse those that reject it. In the same joy I feel in celebration, I feel pain in the lost. We are living in a world that defines self-centeredness. We are living in a world thinking all paths lead to God, and they do not. I pray that this Easter morning that God places a burden on your heart for the depth of what He has done for you. I pray that you are obedient to that burden He placed on your heart and respond to Him as your Savior, or even as to becoming a disciple. Don’t you want to stand at His feet and thank him for today?

He came. He died. He arose. He ascended. He is coming back.

Are you ready to meet Him?

Oh no thanks, I can do it..

Oh no thanks, I can do it..

Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

What is the heaviest load you bear? Mine is mental stress, and the anxiety and depression that are fed from it. If I were to divulge my testimony, it would be full of the stresses of life that many of us fall under. Pride could really be the topic heading under which stress falls though, because pride will lead you to believe that you are to bear the weight of that cross. Christ tells us when we feel those loads are too heavy, to give them to Him in Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Christ is offering to carry our cross for us, and even as He says in Luke 9:23, we are to give it to Him DAILY. The weight of our cross, whatever it may be, we cannot shoulder for six days a week and give it to Him on Sunday mornings.

The true meaning in Luke 9:23 is much deeper, and our cross is none to compare to Christ’s carrying the weight of our sin. Christ was speaking to the apostles and what they must endure as followers of Him. 1 Peter 4:16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.  The apostle Paul speaks of denying himself and dying daily for Christ in 1 Corinthians 15:31. We will suffer as Christians for we are not of this world, and the world is against us recognizing that. What I consistently beg you to do, is to humble yourself before God. That denial of pride, leads to forgiveness of sin, and leads to Him shouldering the load we cannot bear. The dying of yourself should come every day through time spent with Him in prayer and His Word. We are not designed to live our life as the world presses us to live in the instant gratification and pressures of today. The only way to release those daily burdens is through daily time with the One whom has already bore the heaviest Cross for you.

Marching Orders

Marching Orders

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

In the days after Christ’s Resurrection, He was appearing (and disappearing) to those whom He loved. He was encouraging them and preparing them for the ministries that they would spend the rest of their lives pursuing in His name. All of these appearances were to solidify His returning from the dead, even appearing to over 500 as in 1 Corinthians 15:6. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. Then just before He ascended into Heaven, He gave them their marching orders known as The Great Commission above in Matthew. To spread His name, to live righteously, and to have the assurance He would never leave them.

Do you follow Christ’s marching orders? Do you not only try to live right, but try to share what He has done for you? We are all called to become disciples putting Him first in all things. Luke 14:33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. When we began to truly realize what Christ did for us it begins to stir our soul. The Spirit inside us begins to prompt us to share what we possess. Do we deny the Spirit and those promptings never to share our faith with those He puts before us? When those opportunities arise, they are designed by Christ for you to encourage them through the guidance and strength He provides. Moses was scared to death when God called him to speak. But through God He delivered a nation. Exodus 4:12 Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” The Holy Spirit that resides inside you upon Salvation is that same voice that will lead  you in times of sharing your faith with others. Be ready, willing, and able through the strength that lies within to share what you possess following Christ’s marching orders to you also.
