Naked at war

Naked at war

Luke 22:31-32 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

Those verses in Luke are both terrifying and reassuring all wrapped up into one. Christ was at His last supper and telling the disciples of many things to come involving Him, and them. Simon Peter was the most outspoken of the crowd, and Satan wanted get his chance at Simon, and weaken the leader of the disciples. But did you catch that he had to ask permission? Satan has no authority on his own, but must approach God before approaching us. “Oh God can I pleeeeassee go after that one who seems to be doing all these good things for you?” Have you read the story of Job and how God was so proud of him that He let Satan test him harshly only to prove how wrong Satan was and ultimately rewarded Job for his trial?

God will never tempt you in any way to do wrong. James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. God will only draw you near to Himself and give you the strength to face those temptations when they come. The more time you spend with God in prayer and His word, the more strength you have to face the temptations when they come, and they will surely come. When you are spending less time with Him, you are like a soldier thrown into battle naked without his weapons and shields. You are not prepared for the fight and succumb much more easily to the temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Prepare every day by placing yourself with God in prayer and meditation, and these will strengthen you for the temptations that Satan will bring your way. You cannot go into battle naked and unarmed and expect victory, and victory comes only through Christ.

Early morning sunshine

Early morning sunshine

Romans 5:5     Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Why do you even bother to get out of bed? Is it the drudgery of the tasks that lie in the day ahead, or is it the hope that lies within you to arise and see where Christ will have you today? The attitude when your feet hit the floor can follow you all day. Hope is an underlayment on our awakening and our actions throughout our lives. “You are what you believe” a close friend once told me. The hope that lies within us upon Salvation is the Holy Spirit whom brings light to truth, wisdom to our hearts, and joy in our souls. I love how Hebrews 6:19 puts it; “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast,.” That anchor that rests in you provides the peace and security to face the dawn of a new day.

Hope is the expectation of eternal that God has placed in us by His design. We all undeniably have that longing for life after this; it is the way we are all wired. That desire is hope, and the hope grows deeper upon hearing of the Good News. Colossians 1:5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel. Unfortunately the world preaches hope as monetary possessions and pleasures of temporary satisfactions. We all have seen the last few years how temporal they can be. Hope is eternal, is steadfast, and is the reason you have been given the power to face a new day. With the hope of a life in paradise with Christ, what can fall before you today that could be so temporal to waive the power of eternal? Awake tomorrow with a smile and a hope to face the day; “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

Moanin’ and Groanin’

Moanin’ and Groanin’

2 Corinthians 5:1-2  For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,

The older I get, the more my body hurts. My working hard and playing harder are catching up to me sooner than I expected. My physical body has taken it’s toll, and my mind troubles me consistently as a result of bad decisions and more than likely genetics too. I could easily fill this devo with my list of “groans.” But the deepest groan comes from within, the longing for that eternity in paradise. When you begin to search the scriptures and see the promises of God for what He has prepared for you, for eternity, how can the Spirit inside you not long to go home? The closer you draw to Him, the peace and desire of that security swell. Romans 8:23  Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, when we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

We deal with many types of afflictions for our short time here. They may come as physical, emotional, or just the strains of daily life. They all pass through God’s filter, and they all can draw you closer to Him, and glorify Him as a result of whatever you are facing today. 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Matthew Henry speaks of the apostles and “whereupon they weighed things aright in the balance of the sanctuary; they did as it were put the heavenly glory in one scale and their earthly sufferings in the other; and, pondering things in their thoughts, they found afflictions to be light, and the glory of heaven to be a far more exceeding weight.” Whatever you find yourself facing today, give it to God, give the glory to God, and rest in the assurance that it is only for a short time, to prepare you for eternity.

Season of change

Season of change

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2   But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.

I have noticed a common line in many conversations with people these days. Everyone is taking notice of the crazy weather; the confused seasons, and the violent destructive storms year round. The weather is unpredictable, inescapable, and unavoidable. We all are at the mercy of the One who controls it; Psalms 147:15-18 He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; He casts out His hail like morsels; Who can stand before His cold? He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. The creation and control of all things on earth are undeniable evidences of God set before us every day.

Paul is speaking in these verses in Thessalonians of the season of Christ’s return, and the unpredictability of it. There is so much prophecy being preached right now, and I can not argue rightfully so. In verses 4 & 5 we that rest in Salvation are assured of that peace that lies in that coming day. “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.  You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.” Paul urges us to live righteously though because of the uncertainty of the coming day and continue to edify each other and share what we possess through Christ. If all these signs stir questions in your heart, humble yourself and seek God through the grace he has provided you through the sacrifice of His Son to pay for your sins. That day is coming, and it is never too late, until it is.

He came, He died, He arose, He ascended, He is coming back.

I know YOU got this

I know YOU got this

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Thank you Lord for where you have me today. I may not understand, I may even question, but I must rest in the assurance that it all passes through your hands. Your ability is infinite, and my ability to reason is futile, but the peace that comes with that is immeasurable.

We will never understand God’s ways. Isaiah 55:8″For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.” We would never take the paths that a good father will lead us down for many times they come with a cost, and we willingly would deny that price. We simply take the easy path, never seeing the work He may have intended to do through us. We make our plans, but do our plans allow room for God? Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. Most likely not, but yet He has the ability to steer us where He has wanted us all along. He let’s us make mistakes, and He uses them to our benefit.

Pastor Jack yesterday preached on John 9 and the blind man from birth that Christ healed. This was not a bad decision or punishment the man had made. The disciples had asked why he was blind and in verse 3, “ Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” God had been at work in his life all along. But there is a key to remaining in God’s will for your life when you feel him speaking to you. When you feel those tugs of God, are you obedient, or do you pursue it alone going against God in your own reason? You see the works of God outside your reason and in those acts of obedience. John 9:11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” Rest in the peace that surpasses all understanding knowing as a child of His, you can rest in Him in whatever you may face today.
