About oneminuteministry

This blog will be a way for me to share where Christ is speaking to me, and how my relationship with Him is growing. My desire is to encourage you in your walk with Christ as the only Way. John 14:6 "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the father but through me."

Don’t have time for____________

Don’t have time for____________

John 12:25-26 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Henry Blackaby says in the Experiencing God study that, “People that struggle to spend time with God don’t have a scheduling problem, they have a love problem.” They simply don’t love God enough to put him at the top of their priority list. When you have fallen in love with someone, their is never a need to pencil them into your schedule; they are at the top of your list, and your to-do list falls below them at the heading. Everything in this world, in this sin filled world, teaches success bred from selfishness. Nothing matters in life more than whatever you want in life. Nothing will get done unless you do it; nothing will come back to you unless you do the tasks at hand; nothing will come to those that don’t put 110% of their life into something. This top priority could be work or play; we have many idols that take our hearts and focus off God. We may simply not love Him enough to have the drive to pursue him enough to get to know him better.

Jesus was setting the example of a servants heart in this passage in John. He was showing us what it is, what it means to God, to have a heart that thinks first of others; not what we get in return from anything. John 13:15 “For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Jesus lived his life for the purpose we are celebrating this week; He came to give his life so that we might have eternal life; he lived and died sacrificially. Can you imagine how God smiles down on you when he knows the true motive of your heart when you do a complete sacrificial, selfless act, expecting nothing in return? He sees your true heart; he sees Christ in you; he sees you transformed into the image of his Son when you put the needs of another before your own.

The closer you draw to God, the more you will be like Christ. The more you are like Christ the more you will live a selfless life, seeking to point others to Jesus. Things that once matter so much in this life, will not carry the weight they once did. Things that were high on your priority list, are now maybe not even on the list. Careers turn into J.O.B.S. All that money and time you put into your sports or hobbies that turned into idols, are now just good recreational fun. All those times you didn’t have for God, now you don’t have time for them.

Heart Agenda

Heart Agenda

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

My world, and my load in my world is crazy right now. We are approaching Easter, the most Holy week of the year in Christianity, and that weight is heavy on my heart and mind. My cooling business’s floodgates have broken from their hinges. My work load is incredible, which is a true financial blessing from God. Even when I laid down to sleep last night, my mind continued on at warp speed leaving me with a night of broken rest. When I finally got up this morning, my mind was still going at it. Don’t we all have times like that too?

I had talked to God this morning. I thanked him for all the blessings he was pouring out on me right now. I prayed for wisdom; I prayed for His words to be spoken through me both here and at church. It is hard to describe the pain that comes in Paul’s words above; to preach and teach about Christ, and hardened hearts not respond. My heart hurts for the lost that are outsiders, but my greater burden is the lost that are among us; those that think they are saved but are not. Do you proclaim Christ? Do you know that you are saved? It is never about a head knowledge, it is a matter of the heart. Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. When you live your life with a love for Him as this, you will be secure in your salvation and secure in your eternity with Him. If you know you are lacking in this level of love for Him, I am sure you are feeling doubt in your security right now. What is holding you back from committing your life to him completely? Why do you focus on things here that truly do not matter? What is on your agenda for today that has eternal implications?

We watched a movie last night as a family called “My name is Paul.” It is a modern day play on the Apostle Paul’s life; it was really good and made you think about your focus in life, and your willingness to die for your beliefs. Are you; would you? What about when you kneel before your Lord one day feeling secure in your religiosity? You prayed the prayer, and went through the motions, but you never loved him with all your heart? What could he say? Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ What possible excuse do you have for today for not living your life for him today? What is on your agenda that has eternal implications? What does that say about your heart?

Encouragement

Encouragement

1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.(ESV)

Sunday’s sermon was a tough one; it was one of a call to repentance. I knew I was to preach it, and I knew it would bring with it spiritual warfare. Monday was the low, after the high of Sunday. I can’t begin to explain here what my life is like now; I honestly do not think the details matter, but God can show you generalities that you can relate and deal with in situations that you currently face too. We are all called to a daily repentance; we all fail daily and have that need to go before our Lord and ask for forgiveness. I felt that weight heavily yesterday. I thank God for those deep convictions of sin, but they hurt deeply also. I have to ask myself just as Paul did in Romans 7:15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. (ESV) But you must continue reading, and understanding as Paul, that you will never be perfect; you will fail daily, and therefore require daily repentance due to sin. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. (ESV)

Paul writes of the encouraging words that we can lean on in times of trouble above. The promise of eternal paradise with our Savior above. When we get entrenched in the woes of our sin state that binds us, we are of little use to the kingdom. We become so down and worried about ourselves we may miss the blessing from God, or the way he wants to use us for the day. We should focus our minds on heavenly things, living with a repentant heart that casts our sins at the foot of the cross. Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Personally, my plea is for you to encourage your pastors and ministers in your life. This has been a tough lesson to learn for me; it is a very lonely place to be. Those that lead you at church every week need your encouragement. They may be your pastor, your youth leader, your worship leader, anyone involved in ministry is in battle for their servant hearts on the weekend. They need your encouragement; you would be amazed at how far a little will go. Paul knew these battles that the early churches faced; that was why he returned to them, sent letters to them, and constantly sought to encourage them with those he sent to them. Pray for those that serve the Lord by serving you; encourage them in some way, for I promise you they need it.

Rope for climbing

Rope for climbing

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of The Lord it shall be provided.”

Abraham had been obedient to the point we cannot imagine. Abraham had taken his only son on top of the mountain to offer him in an obedient act as a sacrifice to God. God had let him go all the way in His test of his heart and obedience; 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. We know the story, the Lord provided the perfect sacrifice of the ram stuck in the bush in place of his son. At the last minute, possibly the last second, the Lord came through with what was needed in the Lord’s perfect timing of any and every situation. He will ask us and let us go much farther than we would ever choose, to test us also in matters of our hearts and obedience. Do we fail, or do we see and experience God at work in a mighty way? Do we only know the level that He provided for us? It is in these matters and tests of faith that we grow much more intimate with our Lord.

I am experiencing the loads of life, the stresses of life, on an elevated scale these days. I am no different from you; the pressures of the world get to me too. My air conditioning business is what puts bread on my table, and requires an incredible amount of hours in the summer season. With the duties of where God has me at Lakehaven church as pastor, my time management scales are weighing down on me greatly. This is likely to be the toughest summer I have ever experienced. I could go down so many roads in the details of this, but it is all part of God’s plan for my life, and I only see to draw closer to him, and to give him all the glory throughout all the highs and lows I experience through each day.

He has provided for me in this OneMinuteMinistry for the last 2.5yrs like you cannot imagine. He has provided for me through the last six months as “Preacher Mike” on a level that only He and I know. I know that throughout this day, each day, The-Lord-Will-Provide. We are told in the Bible in Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Whatever mountain you find yourself climbing today, look to God in prayer and his Word for the strength to face just today. He will provide all you need to face any thing and every thing you need.

Ain’t no joke

Ain’t no joke

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

It is April Fool’s Day; the day of you can tell any lie, or claim any thing as long as it is followed up with the disclaimer, “April Fools.” It is mostly all good harmless fun, and a break from the monotony and stress of life. All jokes aside, are you secure in your eternal destiny? Do you understand that religion will not get you there? We have been studying at church the book of Philippians, and part of my preparation led me to study religious growth recently. An alarming trend is that 1 in 5 claim “no religion,” but of that group, 68% claim to still believe in God. That statistic baffles me on many fronts. Claim Christianity, yet no proof of their faith evident in their lives? Claim faith in God, yet indecisive on what form of God, or what blend of religion? Do they just believe their religion will get them into heaven, or any form of paradise when they die?

Religion, and any form of it that places you in the center of it, will be the key to eternal punishment, and not paradise. If at your core you believe that by ANY work on your own, that you earn ANY merit with any form of any God, you WILL pay eternally for your mistake. They key to heaven is only through the understanding of Grace, and that is through the provision of God and his son, Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you think that your church attendance record gets you to heaven; if you think that being more of a “good” person than bad, or even just not as bad as the other guy, you are sadly wrong. Going through ritualistic acts that make you appear religious, only makes you appear religious to men; that is called religiosity and opens the doors to the pit below.

Once you realize that God pursued you, such as the passage in John above; you will be humbled to the point of living your life for the One who gave you life. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. You didn’t find God, he found you, and wants you to live your short time here serving him, so that he can reward you eternally in heaven. It is liberating to understand Grace, to understand the trap found in religiosity, to see and feel what God gives you in a relationship with him. We all will kneel before him on judgement day; we will either kneel forgiven in our understanding of grace, or condemned by any other means. That ain’t no April Fool’s joke.

Poor vision

Poor vision

Philippians 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

In our study of Philippians, this week we came to the verses above that speak volumes to me. Scriptures that are near to my heart, scriptures that Paul writes with words that cannot be penned any better; nothing else matters any more. Paul had a life and a pedigree that would have elevated him in any society, and in the Jewish society he was at the top of his game. The family he was born into, right down to the top-notch education that he received; he was born for greatness. All that he pursued in the name of the church was given to him; the silver spoon as a Pharisee fed all his heart’s desires for worldly pursuits. Paul was successful by all worldly standards; it is hard to imagine the elevated position that Paul would hold today in the world and the church.

When Jesus came to Paul in a blinding light on a dirt road, Paul literally never saw the world the same again. Days later when scales fell from his eyes, he never saw his life or this life the same. In these passages above, Paul considered every single thing in his life before that encounter with Christ rubbish, trash, garbage, to be thrown away in a heap. That statement carries a weight with it that only Christ can place on your heart. That statement carries a love with it that only Christ can give. That statement carries with it a passion that nothing earthly can stir your heart to that level of desire. What matters to you most…………

We live in a society that breeds selfishness and worldly pursuits at a level that I do not know has ever been in history. We are consumed with the latest and greatest; we are driven to impress people that we do no even know; we are constantly driven to work ourselves to the bone to pay for what we cannot afford; we as a society are truly missing what Paul is preaching in this passage. I could go deep into my testimony, but it is not about me; it is about where your heart lies with Christ. We may not get the incredible transformation that Paul did, but if you reflect on what has been happening in your life, Christ has been trying to get your attention without blinding you on a dirt road.

More than religion

More than religion

John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

We have started our Experiencing God study; I had forgotten how good it really is. The opening week just speaks so much about the heart that truly seeks God; seeks to know his Will for our lives and how to know when we have joined Him there. A spine of the study is going against what we as Christians tend to do. We tend to pray and ask God to join us where we need help at in our lives. Then we wonder why we haven’t felt right about our relationship with Him; we wonder why we don’t feel his blessing in what we have been doing. Simply put, we asked God to come join us in our work, when we really should be going and joining Him where He is already at work around us. The way to truly know where he is already at work, is a heart that truly desires Him in daily prayer and his Word (Bible). You are NEVER going to find God, much less God’s Will for your life, in just one day a week.

Christ had stood up and made this proclamation at the Feast of Tabernacles; this feast was a Jewish religious festival that was steep in tradition. It was steep in religiosity that many felt themselves to be close to God because they honored and participated in the festival; it was a part of their Sunday or Sabbath system of religion. Christ was challenging their faith right at the pinnacle of the festival; commentaries speak of how when the water was poured to commemorate when the water flowed from the rock in the desert from God, Christ may have made this proclamation. What He was truly proclaiming to them was the gift of the Holy Spirit that would come to those that believed in Him. 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

You can go to church every Sunday, you can try to read your Bible, you can do many things to feel religious, but you will not find heaven in or through them. You must come to understand that religion is not a key to heaven; only Christ holds that key through a humble repentant heart. Romans 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. When you repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, his gift to you is the Holy Spirit that will reside in your heart. It is the Holy Spirit that teaches you the Word of God, and draws you closer to him. It all begins with a heart that seeks God, more than just religion.
