Moving forward

Moving forward

Mark 9:28-29    And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

Christ had taken Peter, James, and John up onto the mountaintop. He wanted his closest three to be with him during this incredible time. It was on that mountaintop, that we learn of his transfiguration. Christ changed before their eyes; they were privy to a glimpse of his glory, in all of his glory. Elijah and Moses appeared and spoke with Jesus, this was happening right before their eyes. Peter, oh the outspoken Peter, had to say something, when nothing was truly needed to be said. 5 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”– 6 because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid. The next scripture is God speaking, Peter hush, listen to God. 7 And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” As they came down the mountain, Christ told them to keep it to themselves what they had seen.

They came down to find the remaining disciples being questioned by the scribes. They had not been able to heal a man who was demon possessed. I cannot help but picture Peter in his zeal from the mountaintop, wanting to say, “I got this one”. Christ steps in and frees the man from his demon possession; the father’s faith grew & it was evident for all to see the power of Christ before them. The father had pled for Christ to help his unbelief. The disciples were perplexed as why they could not perform the exorcism. The hold on the boy that the evil spirit had was likely a strong one, since it had been there from birth. This demon was not likely an easy one to cast out for the disciples; Christ was encouraging them to strengthen their faith in these scriptures above.

When you have big things in life before you, there should be a deep desire to draw closer to God. Hopefully you do not run from, but run to. God either allows or designs these things to draw you closer, to show you your need for him. A heart that desires God and the things of God daily is a heart that responds to God when big things arrive. The backstory of Christ healing the man when the disciples could not is to encourage them to be in constant pursuit of drawing closer to God, to growing their faith, to never feel able in their own power, but to be in pursuit of His power.

Conduits

Conduits

John 4:49-53     The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” 52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

This is the second miracle that Christ performed in Galilee; the Gospel of John records seven miracles that Christ performed, all to show His deity to encourage others to believe in Him. All throughout the New Testament people were wanting a sign to prove Christ was the Messiah. The Gospels point to the life of Christ, proving He was who he claimed to be, the Savior of the World. The Gospel of John spends much time pointing to these proofs of His deity; it is impossible to read John’s book and not come to see that Christ is exactly who he says that he is; He is God. The simplicity, and yet the depth of that book are incredible. I believe it was Elmer Towns who said, “The gospel of John is shallow enough that a toddler can swim, yet deep enough that an elephant can wade.” Have you spent any time there looking for Him? Have you spent any time there seeing the proofs of Him?

Dr. Henry Blackaby’s ministry Experiencing God revolves around going to where God is working and joining him, not to plead for God to join us. The more time you spend with God in prayer and his Word, the more you will see God already at work in your life. You will not have to travel afar, but only to see things in a different light. The nobleman above had done such a thing; he had sought God, and seen the proofs of God at work in his life. 52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” Not only had his son been healed, he was healed at the same hour Christ spoke it. This encouraged the man’s faith, so much so he led his whole family to believe in Christ.

It does not take the miracles of God to show you the proofs of God. You are missing the opportunity for unexplainable acts of God when you are not spending time with Him. When you are seeking him daily with a true heart for Him, he will put people in your paths to show you the proof of Him at work all around you. You can be that same conduit for others seeking Him also. The perfect scripture, the perfect work of encouragement, or a tough word that needs to be heard or spoken, is God at work around you. Being and receiving those blessings from God are an incredible proof of Him at work in your life every, single, day.

Pahleeessse get it…..

I had a sleepless time in the middle of the night last night. This morning I simply went to God in prayer; I have a lot on my mind. I decided to look back one year ago today, and I remembered this urgency that I felt. In the middle of the night I had read; 2 Thessalonians 1:11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

See any similarities?

Pahleeessse get it…..

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

As I laid in bed this morning listening to the rain I was silently thanking God for it. We have been blessed all summer in a year of drought with plentiful rain here in the south. As I came into my study God began to press on my heart the lost and the Living Water that they are without for eternity. Sometimes I get so passionate I want to grab those close to me and just shake them asking “why don’t you just get it?” Our world right here in America is experiencing a falling away in every area from the God centered nation that we were founded upon. Our president to our preachers are not standing upon the ground of Christian morals; with only Christ as the way to eternal paradise. The ideas that all roads lead to God will lead many straight to hell.

Do you understand that no matter how good you think you are, you are eternally lost without the realization of your sin under God as the righteous judge whom we will all stand before? You only have one way for your sin debt to be paid for; through a humble repentant heart and a plea for forgiveness by Christ sacrificial death for you. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. You will stand guilty before a righteous God in an eternal court and either headed to paradise or hell; we all will stand before Him regardless of our lives or faith. But you can stand before Him as a child of His covered by the blood of the sacrifice He gave for you under His Son. Imagine if you gave your sons life for someone; only for them to say it did not matter and they denied that sacrifice you gave for them.

The women at the well in John above was an outcast of society and all she desired was water. Her encounter with Christ changed her life as she found someone who truly loved her, not as the men that had passed through her life before Him. She found a hope in Christ and what He spoke to her. John 4:13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” 15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
