3 Absolute Truths

1 John 5:18-20   We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Three absolute truths
Three verses in a row,
Affirmations of our faith
We know, we know, we know.

John points to our sin
We must stop living in such,
We turn from our old ways
Where Satan can’t touch.

We flee from sin now
We do the best we can;
We turn our heads from old pleasures
We seek to be a Christ-like man.

The closer we draw to God
The more help we get from Thee;
Those desires begin to dwindle
More of Him and less of me.

We know that we are His
We know we are secure;
Our desires to flee from sin
To seek to become pure.

John points to our idols
Each of our lists would be great;
This world preaches selfishness
All others must wait.

It is not by chance that John closes
A warning from idol sin;
That hidden hearts pursuit
Comes from deep within.

God knows your heart
Battles with idols and sin;
Only through his strength
Will you ever win.

Three absolute truths
These proofs we come to know;
A true heart & life for God
Will have that eternal glow.
